Tessa Farmer - 'The Ambush' 2010

I came across Tessa's work a few months ago serendipitously whilst searching through various taxidermy images online. I immediately fell in love with with what i saw, the juxtaposition of a fantasy world rendered as true biological specimens. After sharing my new discovery with a few work colleagues, i found out a good friend was in contact with her sister (small world). It was then i had the opportunity to commission a small piece of work from her. She was free to create anything she wanted, i didn't want to interfere as her art lies in the narrative and the world she has created.

I met up with her last week to collect it and had a general chat about her work, she was also kind enough to give me two books. The first book 'Little Savages' contains work from her time exhibiting at the Natural History Museum, and the second is from the Provenance exhibition in Bath which is full of amazing artists.

Safe to say i'm really pleased with how it turned out and i've taken a few photos to share with you all. Titled 'The Ambush' the piece portrays a scene of warrior fairies ambushing a hornet.

If you want to see more of her work have a look through her site, and if you want to see her work in the flesh (which i definitely recommend) she is exhibiting at the Saatchi gallery as part of the NewSpeak: British Art Now exhibition from 27th October.
